English Essentials Editing Course - Words and Idioms

Editing Course - Module 3 Unit 2 - Using Words and Idioms Correctly

As speakers and readers of English, most of us believe that we know our basics and can be called upon to edit another's writing or clean up our own copy. The truth, however, is that we could all use guidance in areas like spelling, punctuation, grammar and the mechanics of editing to produce a polished manuscript.

A poorly edited piece of writing with spelling and punctuation errors only serves to stamp the writer as ignorant or just plain careless - and readers will not take such work seriously.

The editor is the last line of defense between a writer and his/her readers. The Basics for Beginners modules have been developed to help writers and editors become aware of the pitfalls of poor writing and learn the skills to overcome them.

This is the 2nd unit in the Module on Usage and covers Using Words and Idioms correctly.
